Summer Break Camp with West Coast Forest School
West Coast Forest School has hosted Summer Break Camp at Layritz Park since 2018 and at Juan De Fuca recreation Center since 2020. We spend adventurous weeks exploring the parks and playing in nature. There are many highlights to the fun-filled time including whittling, climbing trees, playing in streams, playing nature-themed games and much more. About Layritz Park
The land for this park was donated to Saanich by Richard Layritz in 1953 with the stipulation that it be fenced in and used as a park for children. Today, this large community park is home to Layritz Little League, the Prospect Lake Soccer Club and the Layritz Intermediate Baseball Association. Accessed primarily from Layritz Place, the park is also accessible from Markham Road at the Vancouver Island Technology Park. Although this is a pay parking lot, Layritz Park users can park for free Monday to Friday 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and Holidays 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This park features a selection of well maintained, groomed crushed gravel paths that wind through marshland, open fields, forested areas, and playing fields. There are many connecting trails that lead to interesting natural spots like Quick’s Bottom Bog, the Gardens at HCP and the Garry Oak meadow hill. It’s a very exciting and diverse location for our Summer Forest School programs.
